Richard M. Inserra is President of Insurance Strategies Ltd.
Mr. Inserra has over 25 years experience in the insurance and risk
management field serving as Risk Manager for a number of Fortune
500 firms including Union Carbide, Praxair, Inc., Triangle
Industries and American Can Company. He also held senior risk management
positions with NL Industries and Nabisco. His insurance career started
as a commercial underwriter with Hartford Insurance.
Mr. Inserra has developed and implemented centralized risk management
programs for multi-national organizations, improving the cost effectiveness
of the company’s risk financing and risk identification processes.
He has extensive experience in establishing and operating insurance
subsidiaries (captives). He was President and Chief Operating Officer
for Westbridge Insurance Ltd., a large, “investment grade”
rated (by Standard & Poor’s) insurance company.
This insurance subsidiary of Union Carbide, while an integral part
of the company’s risk financing program, also underwrote substantial
amounts of non-related business realizing underwriting profits and
substantial investment income.
Mr. Inserra has developed and implemented innovative multi-year,
multi-line risk financing programs and is recognized for his creative
approach in developing effective risk financing programs.
His broad experience has made him familiar with all types of business
risks including manufacturing, chemicals, financial, communications,
construction and professional services. His risk management and
analytical skills have been sharpened through involvement in over
60 mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
Mr. Inserra’s educational credentials consist of a B.A. (Fordham
University), M.B.A. and post-M.B.A. degrees (Iona College). He has
written a number of risk management articles and is a contributing
author to International M&A, Joint Ventures & Beyond.
He is a frequent speaker at risk management conferences on a variety
of insurance and risk subjects.
He has served as the Chairman of the Risk & Insurance Committee
for the Town of Ridgefield (CT) and the Ridgefield Board of Education
for the last 12 years.
Business Insurance named him “Risk Manager
of the Year” in 1984.
